This personal project celebrates my 20-year love for Scotland and my 40th birthday. Largely landscapes and animals, this short series is a selection of images I made while in Oban and on Mull, Iona, and Staffa.
When I was at Oxford, I used to travel to Scotland as often as possible, both for vacation and for research. Since I moved back to North Carolina in 2001, I have not been able to go as often as I would like, and so when I was asked what I wanted for my 40th birthday, I said, “A trip to Scotland!” I packed my camera bag and was able to take some time partially on a photography course, but mainly on my own. I stayed in a tent near Oban and then on Iona. Someday I’d love to live in that part of the world, if only for a few years. Being there makes me feel very alive.
